Bus Driver (top)

Bus Driver candidates for Kent County Parks & Recreation must possess a required specific bus driver license in the State of Maryland.  Candidates must also hold a current First Aid & CPR certification.  Candidates should have previous experience transporting children and possess the ability to be firm but friendly with children ages 3 ½ through 12.  The Bus Driver is responsible for the safety of children during transportation.  This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Successful candidates will be expected to complete all County requirements for employment including mandatory drug screening.

Day Camp Director (top)

The Camp Director position for Kent County Parks & Recreation Day Camp requires extensive experience with children and knowledge of current camp development and design. The Director must have excellent communication skills and be able to resolve conflicts with staff, children and parents. This position requires the candidate to be responsible for the daily organization of the camp and the safety of the campers and will be required to work with each group of children on special activities of the Director’s choice each week. Camp Directors must be at least 21 years of age to be considered for the position. This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Priority will be given to candidates who can be available for the entire camp schedule and orientation (June 16 – August 15). Aside from the County requirements for employment this position requires candidates to have a yearly pre-employment medical form completed including a negative TB test, criminal background search, orientation, current First Aid & CPR certification (will be offered during orientation) and proof of age (photo ID). Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Designing the basic structure for the 8-9 weeks of camp and creating daily lesson plans that provide counselors with direction towards achieving program goals and end results.
  • Ordering supplies for arts & crafts.
  • Coordinating field trips, clubs, special events and presentations.
  • Monitoring and coordinating swimming schedules for groups.
  • Guidance and evaluation of Camp Counselors.
  • Following and being responsible for all camp regulations and operating standards including those required by the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene.

There is one position for Director for Day Camp (ages 6-10).

The Counselor position for Kent County Parks & Recreation Day Camp requires experience with children and knowledge of age appropriate activities. Counselors must have good communication skills, be willing to work in a team atmosphere, possess the ability to be firm but friendly with campers and must be able to be articulate and remain professional when dealing with other staff, children and parents. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age or a high school graduate. Priority will be given to candidates with a high energy level, enthusiasm, experience, long term interest in working with children and camps, and can be available for the entire camp schedule and orientation (June 16 – August 15). This position requires the candidate to work independently and be responsible with groups of children on a daily basis. This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Aside from the County requirements for employment this position requires candidates to have a yearly pre-employment medical form completed including a negative TB test, criminal background search, orientation, current First Aid & CPR certification (will be offered during orientation) and proof of age (photo ID). Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the safety and well being of campers.
  • Completing and following lesson plans as designed and organized by the Director.

Youth In Action Camp Director (top)

The Assistant Camp Director position for Kent County Parks & Recreation requires extensive experience with children and knowledge of current camp development and design. The Assistant must have excellent communication skills and be able to resolve conflicts with staff, children and parents. This position requires the candidate to be responsible for assisting with the daily organization of the program and the safety of the campers and will be required to assist the Summer Camp Director in working with each group of children on special activities of the Director’s choice each week. The Director must be at least 21 years of age to be considered for the position. This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Priority will be given to candidates who can be available for the entire camp schedule and orientation (June 16 – August 15). Aside from the County requirements for employment this position requires candidates to have a yearly pre-employment medical form completed including a negative TB test, complete criminal background search, provide proof of age (photo ID), have a valid driver’s license, supply a copy of a 3 year driving record from the MVA, and completion of a defensive driving class (provided by County). Duties include but are not limited to:

Candidates must have excellent communication skills, excellent judgment skills, be able to work independently, as well as in a team atmosphere, and be responsible for the safety of children. In addition, candidates must be at least 21 years of age and have experience driving 15 passenger vans. Candidates must be able to resolve conflicts with children, parents and staff, possess the ability to be firm but friendly and must be able to be articulate and professional when dealing with parents, children and staff. Priority will be given to candidates with high energy level, enthusiasm and experience and long term interest in working with children and with camps and can be available for the entire camp schedule and orientation (June 16 – August 15). This position requires the candidate to be able to work independently and be responsible with groups of youth on a daily basis. Youth in Action Counselors must be at least 21 years of age to be considered for the position. This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Aside from the County requirements for employment this position requires candidates to have a yearly pre-employment medical form completed including a negative TB test, criminal background search, orientation, current First Aid & CPR certification (will be offered during orientation) and proof of age (photo ID). Additionally, Youth in Action Counselors must have a valid driver’s license, supply a copy of a 3 year driving record from the MVA, and completion of a defensive driving class (provided by the County).   • Following, enforcing and being responsible for all program regulations and operating standards.
  • Responsible for safety and well being of children.
  • Completing and following daily schedule as coordinated by Camp Director.
  • Responsible for keeping supplies, equipment, vehicles and facilities in good condition.
  • Responsible for accurately completing required paperwork as designated by Camp Director.
  • Resolving conflicts between children.
  • Administering First Aid to participants as needed.
  • Transporting children to scheduled activities as coordinated by Camp Director in a safe manner.
  • Coordinating team building activities as needed.
  • Knowing and following all regulations including those required by the Dept. of Health & Mental Hygiene.

Leaders Club Assistant Coordinator (top)

  • Following, enforcing and being responsible for all program regulations and operating standards.
  • Assist Supervisor in coordinating daily activities.
  • Assist Supervisor in supervising, guiding and assisting program counselors daily.
  • Responsible for accurately completing required paperwork as designated by Supervisor.
  • Resolving conflicts between children, parents and staff.
  • Administering First Aid to participants as needed.
  • Knowing, following and enforcing all policies and procedures of the Department and Program.
  • Attending week long Wilderness Challenge Camping Trip.

Playground Supervisor (top)

The Playground Supervisor position for Kent County Parks & Recreation requires extensive experience with children and knowledge of current camp development and design. The Director must have excellent communication skills and be able to resolve conflicts with staff, children and parents. This position requires the candidate to be responsible for the oversight of 2-3 playground locations and the design of the program. Playground Supervisors must be at least 21 years of age to be considered for the position. This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Priority will be given to candidates who can be available for the entire program schedule and orientation (June 16 – August 7). Aside from the County requirements for employment this position requires candidates to have a yearly pre-employment medical form completed including a negative TB test, complete criminal background search, provide proof of age (photo ID) and, have a valid driver’s license. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Designing the basic structure for the 7-8 week program.
  • Ordering supplies for arts & crafts.
  • Coordinating field trips, clubs, special events and presentations.
  • Guidance and evaluation of Leaders and Aides.
  • Following and being responsible for all camp regulations and operating standards including those required by the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene.

There is one position for the Playground Supervisor.


Playground Leader (top)

The Playground Leader position for Kent County Parks & Recreation requires experience with children and knowledge of age appropriate activities. Leaders must have good communication skills, experience in planning recreation and sporting activities, possess the ability to be firm but friendly with children and must be able to be articulate and professional when dealing with other staff, children and parents. This position requires the candidate to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere, be responsible for the safety of children while in attendance, be able to design plans that will include sports, games, arts & crafts and participate with the children in all activities. Leaders must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for the position. Weeks and hours of employment for Garnett and Rock Hall Elementary Schools are 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday from (June 16 – August 7). This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Priority will be given to candidates who can be available for the entire program schedule and orientation. Head Lifeguard (top)

The Head Lifeguard position for Kent County Parks and Recreation requires experience working with the public and water safety. Candidates must have good communication skills, be willing to travel between sites within Kent County (including Millington, Betterton and Rock Hall), work weekends and holidays, be available Memorial Day through Labor Day, and be professional dealing with other staff, children and adults. The position requires the candidate to be responsible for maintaining the pool/beach facility, grounds, equipment and collection of monies. Head Lifeguards must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for the position. This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Aside from the County requirements for employment this position requires candidates to have current First Aid & CPR certification, Waterfront Rescue for the Professional and Lifeguard Training and CPO certifications. WSI certification or equivalent helpful but not required. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the safety of the public.
  • Administering First Aid to participants as needed.
  • Responsible for keeping supplies, equipment and facilities in good condition.
  • Administering rules and regulations as stated in handbook.
  • Guidance, supervision and evaluation of lifeguards.
  • Responsible for efficient money collection and recording.

There are three positions for Head Lifeguard.

The Lifeguard position for Kent County Parks and Recreation requires experience working with the public and water safety. Swim Instructor (Millington Pool)(top)

The Swim Instructor position for Kent County Parks and Recreation requires experience working with the public and water safety. Instructors must have good communication skills and be professional dealing with other staff, children and adults. Instructors must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for the position. In addition, candidate must be available for 3, two week morning sessions from July 7 – August 14, in addition to prior planning time. This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Aside from the County requirements for employment this position requires candidates to have current First Aid & CPR certification, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification or equivalent. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the safety of the public.
  • Administering First Aid to participants as needed.
  • Creating and following lesson plans for the American Red Cross Swimming Lessons.
  • Supervising and guiding assistant instructors.
  • Administering rules and regulations as stated in handbook.

There is one position for Swim Instructor.


Park Supervisor (top)

The Park Supervisor position for Kent County Parks and Recreation requires experience in facility and park management. Candidates must have good communication skills, be willing to work evenings and some weekends and be able to work well with the public. This position requires the ability to work independently and be responsible for maintaining facility equipment, securing County parks, delivering pool supplies and equipment, in addition to grounds maintenance as needed. Grounds Maintenance will include cleaning of bathrooms, picking litter from fields and other such duties. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and available from early May through late September to be considered for the position. This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as will as exceptional character attributes. Aside from the county requirements for employment this position requires candidates to have current First Aid & CPR certification (provided by County as part of orientation) and proof of age (photo ID, a valid driver’s license, and supply a copy of a (3) year driving record from the MVA. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for maintaining park facility, equipment, and grounds.
  • Administering First Aid to participants as needed.
  • Knowing and enforcing park rules and regulations.
  • Able to work some weekend tournaments.

There are two positions for Park Supervisor.


Maintenance Worker (top)

The Maintenance Worker position for Kent County Parks & Recreation requires candidates to have some experience with grounds keeping, cleaning and facility maintenance. Candidates must be able to lift heavy objects, have experience with power tools and handling machinery. Candidates must be at least 14 years of age and be available to work weekends. The season runs from early May through late September, with weekend work outside of the public school calendar. This position is considered to be one that is in the public eye and should always reflect a professional manner as well as exceptional character attributes. Successful candidates will be expected to complete all County requirements for employment including mandatory drug screening.
